NBA Standout Wesley Matthews Teams up with Boys & Girls Club for Bike 4 Boys & Girls

Madison, WI native to visit local Boys & Girls Club and participate in a 25 mile bike ride for the community 

(Madison, WI) June 19, 2012 – Boys & Girls Club of Dane County (BGCDC) will host NBA star and Madison, WI native Wesley Matthews at the Allied Boys & Girls Club located at 4619 Jenewein Road, Fitchburg, WI 53711 on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 1 p.m. The Portland Trailblazers standout will join officials from Trek and Dream Bikes to speak to Boys & Girls Club members and supporters about bike safety and the importance of year-round training. Additionally, Matthews will formally announce his participation in the annual Bike 4 Boys & Girls Club event, a 25 mile bike ride throughout his home town on July 21st to raise money for the club and awareness.

“I am excited to participate in the Bike 4 Boys & Girls Club to help raise money for such a great program,” said Matthews. “Over the past ten years, this event has helped the Boys & Girls Club of Dane Country tremendously and I’m proud to be a part of it. I’m looking forward to helping the community that has supported me from the beginning.”

While visiting the Boys and Girls Club, Matthews will be fitted with a new Trek Bike and learn the ways of the road from a cyclist’s point of view. Alongside Boys & Girls Club members, Matthews will learn bike signals and safety and training tips to prepare for his 25 mile ride throughout Madison.  BIKE for Boys & Girls Club brings nearly 1,000 volunteers, family, friends, coworkers and neighbors together for a fun-filled ride through picturesque Madison and Dane County ending with an awesome party for all at Edgewood High School. Boys & Girls Club is looking to raise $300,000 for its 10 year anniversary of the bike ride to support the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County. BIKE for Boys & Girls Club will be the largest single source of funding for the Boys & Girls Club and is instrumental in reaching nearly 2,500 youth who need our help the most.
