DELAVAN, WI — In support of Hunger Action Month and to underscore its commitment to fighting food insecurity, Conagra Brands Foundation has announced the recipients of its annual “Nourish Our Community” grant program, awarding one-year grants to 17 nonprofits across the United States. The grants, totaling $350,000, will help create positive social impact in the communities where its employees live and work.
Conagra employees play a leading role in the “Nourish Our Community” program and raise awareness for the pervasiveness of hunger in America. For more than 25 years, employees have nominated nonprofit organizations in their local communities to be considered for grants in areas addressing domestic hunger and food insecurity, cooking skills, nutrition education, healthy and active lifestyles or urban agriculture. A cross-functional committee of employees then helps select which local organizations will receive the grants.
Boys & Girls Club of Walworth County has been selected as one the 17 local non-profits to be awarded the “Nourish Your Community” grant by Conagra Brands.
“This grant will fully fund our food distribution program for Boys & Girls Club members and families for the entire year,” said Michael Johnson, President & CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Walworth and Dane Counties. “Because of the generosity of Conagra Foods, we will be able to expand our impact in Walworth County with monthly Meals to Go events. This will put us on track to double the number of meals provided to our families last year. Thank you Conagra Brands Foundation for supporting our local Boys & Girls Club!”
According to a recent study by United Way of Walworth County, 33% of Walworth County residents are considered Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed (ALICE). ALICE represents households whose income is above the Federal Poverty Level, but lower than the basic cost of living within the county.
