Madison, WI – On Friday, August 16th, 2019 between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM, a bus of 40 youth and 8 chaperones from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County will arrive at the Allied Family Center (4619 Jenewein Rd., Fitchburg, WI 53711) having experienced a five day, all-expense paid journey to Washington D.C. They are one of many youth groups from across Wisconsin who are taking summer trips to learn about American government and history, visit institutions of higher education and develop important life-skills.
The Club customized their own personal field trip with visits to the Smithsonian, National Museum of African American History and Culture, United States Capitol, Library of Congress, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Arlington National Cemetery, various memorials and more. The goal of this trip is to make history come alive, expand horizons, and give youth an opportunity to imagine themselves as our future leaders.
Funded by Herb Kohl Philanthropies, this educational field trip covers all meals, lodging, exhibits and travel expenses. This trip also emphasizes leadership development and expands upon the positive youth engagement that Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County provide every day.
“Herb Kohl Philanthropies provides amazing opportunities to kids who might not otherwise have access,” said Michael Johnson, Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County President and CEO, “Our mission is to be the leader in youth development programs by developing partnerships to produce positive outcomes for young people. We are thankful for this partnership that helps accelerate our mission and supports the learning journey for our Club members.”
