Frequently Asked Questions

How much is this scholarship for? What does “full scholarship” mean?

  • The TILLY Scholarship is a full scholarship covering the cost of up to four years of a bachelor’s program. 
  • “Full scholarship” is defined as the Cost of Attendance (COA) outlined by the university where the recipient enrolls, minus any scholarships or other financial aid that the recipient is getting from other sources.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • High school seniors attending school in Dane County (class of 2026), enrolled in the AVID elective class, and planning to attend a four-year university.
  • Applicants do not have to be members of Boys & Girls Clubs.

How will the recipient be selected?

  • Applications will be reviewed for the following qualifications:
    • Leadership skills & experience
    • Passion about a local or global issue, wanting to make a difference
    • Clear articulation of why the applicant wants to go to college, and/or how a college education will help them pursue their leadership & service goals
  • After written applications are reviewed, finalists will be invited for an in-person interview

What if the recipient does not graduate in four years?

  • This scholarship only covers up to four years of a bachelor’s program.

What if the recipient graduates early or starts a master’s program?

  • This scholarship only covers bachelor’s studies.

What if the recipient wants to enroll in a technical college or two-year program?

  • Applicants should plan to enroll in a bachelor’s program at an accredited four-year university

What if the recipient wants to take a gap year?

  • Applicants should plan to begin college in Fall 2026.

What does the recipient need to do to maintain eligibility?

  • The recipient must provide proof of enrollment each semester. There are no GPA or other academic requirements.
  • The recipient may withdraw or unenroll for at most one semester.

Does this full scholarship cover tuition-only or other costs too?

  • The full scholarship covers the Cost of Attendance outlined by the university where the recipient enrolls. This includes both direct costs to the university (such as tuition or on-campus housing) as well as indirect costs (such as books, transportation, and personal expenses).

What grades are required to apply?

  • Grades are not considered as part of the application. The only academic requirement is that applicants must be enrolled in AVID.

What SAT/ACT/standardized test scores are required to apply?

  • Test scores are not considered as part of the application. The only academic requirement is that applicants must be enrolled in AVID.

Can this scholarship be used at any school or any major?

  • The scholarship can be used at any accredited four-year university, including public and private universities.
  • There are no restrictions on majors.

What does “TILLY” mean?

  • TILLY stands for To Ignite Leadership & Learning in Youth. It is also a nod to the donor’s beloved pet dog!
